Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) created and refined the Pilates method of physical fitness nearly one hundred years ago. Born in Germany, Joseph developed the method during World War I and continued to refine the practice in the years that followed. In the 1920’s Joseph and his wife Clara moved to New York City where they opened their studio and taught into the 1960’s. Today the practice continues to grow in popularity as more people experience the Pilates method and core principles of Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision, Breath, and Flow.
